Strengthening Our Engineering Team: Phil Wastell Joins True9
Now feels like a good time to officially welcome Phil Wastell to True9 as a Senior Software Engineer.
Phil has been part of the team for the past six months, getting stuck in from day one and delivering immediate value and embedding himself into how we operate day to day. During that time, he’s become a familiar and trusted presence across both the engineering team and client delivery.
With over two decades of experience in full-stack software engineering, Phil brings deep technical knowledge across modern web technologies, particularly within complex, multi-tenanted SaaS platforms spanning e-commerce and ERP domains.
He has a strong track record of leading software builds from early architectural decisions through to delivery, with a consistent focus on performance, scalability and long-term maintainability.
Beyond the code itself, Phil is someone who naturally bridges the gap between technical delivery and business need. He’s thoughtful in how requirements are translated into practical solutions, communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and champions strong engineering practices that support reliable, high-quality outcomes.
Since joining True9, Phil has been operating very much as a senior engineer in practice. He’s taken ownership of complex technical challenges, played a key role in shaping how we build and deliver software, and become a go-to technical voice when things get complicated. He works closely with delivery and design, supports other engineers through collaboration and review, and consistently raises the bar around code quality and engineering standards.
“What really stood out to me about True9 was the balance between strong engineering and genuine collaboration. There’s a real emphasis on building things properly, not just getting them out of the door.
From day one, I’ve felt trusted to take ownership, contribute ideas, and work closely with people who genuinely care about the quality of what we deliver for clients. It’s a team that values good engineering, clear thinking, and doing the right thing, which makes it a great place to grow and do meaningful work.”
Phil Wastell
Looking ahead, Phil is already well on the path toward stepping into a Lead Software Engineer role on one of our largest client accounts. That progression is about broadening impact rather than stepping away from hands-on work. It means taking greater ownership of technical direction, helping guide delivery at a project level, acting as a primary technical contact for clients, and continuing to support and mentor the wider team.
We’re really pleased to have Phil as part of True9, and excited about the role he’ll continue to play as we grow both our team and the work we deliver for our clients.
Welcome (officially), Phil.
